Top 7 Best Waterfalls in Lombok You Need to Visit

Lombok, Indonesia, is a paradise known for its pristine beaches, majestic volcanoes, and lush forests. But beyond its coastlines and mountains lies a hidden treasure trove, the best waterfalls in Lombok.

Whether you’re an adventure seeker, nature lover, or photography enthusiast, these waterfalls in Lombok are a must-see on your itinerary.

Here’s your guide to the top 7 waterfalls in Lombok that you absolutely need to check out. No fluff, just real, helpful info from someone who’s actually gotten soaked trying to find the path to a few of these.

1. Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Let’s kick things off with a classic. Tiu Kelep is basically the best waterfalls in Lombok. It’s located in North Lombok, near the village of Senaru. Most folks visiting Mount Rinjani stop here before or after the trek.

There’s a short 45-minute walk through forest and shallow streams, yes, your shoes will get wet, don’t try to outsmart nature and suddenly. This towering 45-meter-high rush of water pouring down like it’s got somewhere to be. Mist everywhere.

Some say Tiu Kelep is the most beautiful waterfall in Lombok. I wouldn’t argue. But fair warning, if it’s rainy season, the current can get pretty strong. There’s a second, smaller fall nearby called Sendang Gile, so you’re really getting two for one.

Getting there: About 2.5 to 3 hours drive from Kuta. Private driver or scooter with good brakes recommended.

2. Sendang Gile Waterfall

Literally just a few minutes before Tiu Kelep, you’ll find Sendang Gile. It’s like Tiu Kelep’s chill younger sibling.

It’s easier to get to, which makes it a good option if you’re traveling with kids or just not in the mood to trek too hard. The fall drops in two tiers, not as thunderous as Tiu Kelep, but still super impressive. The water is icy cold, especially in the pools, so great for a dip on a humid day.

Locals believe the water here has healing properties. I can’t confirm that, but I did have a sore knee that mysteriously stopped hurting after a swim. Coincidence?

Getting there: Same route as Tiu Kelep. Park once and visit both.

3. Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu Waterfalls

If you’re down in Central Lombok and don’t want to drive all the way up north, Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu are your best bet.

They’re actually in the same park area, and you can see both in one loop. Benang Stokel has twin waterfalls that drop down dramatically from the jungle above, and then Benang Kelambu is totally different, water seeps down through layers of green plants like a natural curtain. That’s actually what Kelambu means in Bahasa is mosquito net.

Getting there: About 1.5 to 2 hours from Kuta.

4. Tiu Teja Waterfall

Not many people make it to Tiu Teja. Which makes it perfect if you’re allergic to crowds. It’s way up in the Santong village in North Lombok. The road gets a bit rough near the end, last time, we had to ask a farmer where to turn, but once you arrive, it feels like a secret.

The waterfall itself is around 40 meters high, with a beautiful rainbow that shows up when the sunlight hits just right. Teja means “rainbow” in Sasak, so that’s pretty spot on.

Getting there: About 3 hours from Kuta. But worth the effort.

5. Mangku Sakti Waterfall

Okay, this one’s for the adventurous souls. Mangku Sakti is not an easy one to reach, but the lunar-like rock formations and teal-colored water make it feel like you’ve left the planet.

Located in East Lombok, close to Sembalun (also a base camp for Rinjani), it’s got this otherworldly vibe. The waterfall cuts through limestone rock, which gives the water a surreal color. It’s popular with locals, not so much tourists.

6. Jeruk Manis Waterfall

The name translates to “sweet orange,” and it’s a fitting name for this little gem. Tucked away in the southern foothills of Mount Rinjani, Jeruk Manis is not too touristy but still well-maintained.

There’s a 1.5 km trail through forest and streams, totally manageable and it’s said the water helps with hair growth. Local stories say if you wash your head under the fall, your hair gets thicker. I didn’t test this one… yet.

Getting there: About 2 hours from Kuta. Go early, as the area closes around 5 PM.

7. Ulem-Ulem Waterfall

Let’s wrap it up with a deep cut. Ulem-Ulem is located in East Lombok and it’s kind of a hidden gem, meaning, not many folks talk about it, but they should.

It’s not just one fall, there’s a series of small waterfalls you can hike around, swim in, and picnic beside.

The name itself doesn’t get tossed around on many travel blogs, which is probably why it’s still under the radar. Definitely a good choice if you’ve already hit the popular ones and want something new.

Tips for Visiting

Alright, before you run off into the jungle with flip-flops and zero snacks, here are a few things that’ll actually make your waterfall-hopping smoother.

  1. Start early
  2. Footwear matters
  3. Bring more cash
  4. Bring dry clothes
  5. Be respectful
